Mike was my big cousin , when we were young the age gap (8 years) was so much bigger than now when it is nothing . Mike used to visit our family in his teens and I remember him playing cricket with my brother on our lawn and if I was VERY lucky I was allowed to try to be a fielder though with no success. Mike has always featured closely in our family , my Mum loved him dearly and my Dad ‘Uncle Alec’ was always a source of great entertainment to him. I was honoured to be Mike and Kate’s bridesmaid in 1972. I have always admired Mike for his endurance of his health problems and Kate for her steadfast support . When asked about his health I would receive a quick resume then he would swiftly move on … I know how proud he was of his growing family ( and so he should have been ) and I comfort myself thinking that he at least saw his beautiful granddaughters grow up into the wonderful foursome that they are now. RIP dear Mike

In his late 40's Mike's heart problems emerged, which lead to an increasingly restrictive life, and he had to relinquish his job as a social worker. His great determination and will to survive on behalf of his family lasted for the next 30 years. He was indeed a brave and courageous man.

I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other that we still are. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it ever was.
